The only use for Cascara Sagrada is a laxative. However, the process of preparing the Cascara Sagrada can be quite grueling. Once you peel the bark from the Rhamnus Purshiana tree, it must sit and 'cure' for at least one year before ingestion. If not aged properly, Cascara Sagrada is known to agitate the Gastrointestinal tract and cause vomiting, cramps and severe & bloody diarrhea.Cascara Sagrada Safety Concerns & Restrictions:
Cascara Sagrada should NOT be taken for longer than 7 consecutive days. Excessive use of Cascara Sagrada can cause your colon to become dependent on it's use, and you will only be able to have a bowel movement with the assistance of some form of laxative.If you suffer from any of the following ailments, you should NOT use Cascara Sagrada or products containing Cascara Sagrada without close doctor supervision.
